Community Connections

Looking for a way to connect and learn from organizations in the bellingham Community? Check out our new event series: Community Connections!

The goal of this monthly event is to provide space for folks to gather, drink beer, and engage with different parts of our community by raising funds and awareness of local non profit organizations.

December's Community Connections focused on the backcountry snow sports community, and benefitted the Northwest Avalanche Center. NWAC is a “WA based Non Profit that exists to increase avalanche awareness, reduce avalanche impacts, and equip the community with mountain weather and avalanche forecasts, education, and data.”

The Roosevelt brewery was transformed into an educational resource fair with representatives from local organizations in the snow sports community: Cascade Mountain Ascents, Green Mountain Physical Therapy, Backcountry Essentials, Traverse Ski Equipment and Folkrm Poles

Each of these organizations brought their own interactive element and knowledge to the event, with information on backcountry safety, accident prevention, equipment repair and demos.

The raffle was a big hit, and combined with the pint night donations raised   for NWAC.

The raffle was a big hit, and combined with the pint night donations raised $1300  for NWAC.

January’s Community Connection event was a film premiere and silent auction benefiting

North Sound Trout Unlimited.

NSTU is “working to protect and conserve our wild and native cold water fish and fisheries through habitat restoration, data collection and monitoring, advocating for science-based management, and public outreach in an inclusive, fun, and spirited environment.”

A Steelhead Story—The Legacy of Bill McMillan,

is a short documentary about a local legend whose time and energy has been dedicated to the steelhead recovery on the Skagit River in Washington for decades. This Waist Deep Media film plays homage to Bill’s years of volunteer work and his shining example of citizen science.

Our goal for this Community Connections event was to inspire others to get involved in the work that Trout Unlimited is doing to protect and restore coldwater habitat around the country. Between merch sales and the silent auction we raised $1300 for NSTU.

Thursday February 16th will be the next Community Connections!

Bring your clothes and gear for mending at our February Community Connections event benefiting Ragfinery, a local nonprofit and retail store dedicated to educating our community about textile waste, creative reuse and mending.

Ragfinery will be offering free, or by donation, quick clothing repair on-site.

Madrona Wear will be offering repair on-site as well as consultations for larger repair projects.

Bea Hamster Sews will be selling repurposed malt bag tote bags, and DIY kits with proceeds benefiting Ragfinery.

Come learn about clothing repairs, pick up a malt bag tote bag, and enjoy a couple beers while you do it! Kulshan will be donating $1 per pint sold during the duration of the event.

Through Community Connections, we have been able to foster relationships within the communities and provide a platform for meaningful dialogue and collaboration.
